Because, as I’m writing this, Lovely Boyfriend is preparing stovies. Mmmm…the house smells wonderful!
For those who don’t know, stovies is a traditional Scottish dish. Thinly sliced potato and onion, simmered for well over an hour in beef stock (vegetarian friendly version for me). In essence, it’s mashed potato cooked in gravy, but it’s soooo tasty! Served with some sort of meat (Quorn steak pieces) bashed through it, with beetroot and oatcakes on the side. Delicious.
What’s your local dish? Childhood favourite? Try to include it in your next piece of writing and see how your characters react.
Have a great weekend, filled with wonderful things to eat!
